| Size/Shape | A handsome specimen of bushy growth with dense foliage. Grows to 2-4 in container. Beautifully shaped shrub that forms symmetrical 6 foot high mounds. The many branches tend to grow almost parallel to the ground giving the shrub an attractive horizontal aspect (the species name, divaricata means "at an obtuse angle"). Plants tend to be more compact in sun. Shapely form. |
| Leaves | Dense foliage. Evergreen. Like many members of the Apocynaceae family, stems exude a milky latex when broken. The large shiny leaves are deep green and are 6 or more inches in length and about 2 inches in width. Leaves are opposite. Glossy. |
| Flowers | Produces hoards of lovely semi-double white flowers. The waxy blossoms are white five-petaled pinwheels that are borne in small clusters on the stem tips. |
| Blooming Season | Summer. Spring but flowers appear sporatically all year. |

| Propagation | Propagate by seed or by cuttings. Softwood cuttings. Fresh seed or cutting. Seed should be planted within a few months of harvest as this rainforest species has a fairly short viability. Germination is low even under ideal conditions, but is greatly assisted by natural or chemical fungicides. They should be sown into sand or sandy soil, kept warm and moist, but not wet. |
| Soil | Not particular about soil. Good drainage. Well-composted, well-drained, sandy soils. |
| Water | Needs water during dry periods. Regular to abundant water. Roots are prone to rot in poorly draining soil. |
| Food | It responds to fertilizer by looking its best. |
| Pruning | Prune lightly as required to maintain nice form. |
| Light | Full or partial sun. Grows in sun or partial shade - plants tend to be more compact in sun. Light shade to shade. Sun to part shade. |
| Climate | Zone 10 and higher. Minimum temperature 55°. Tropical. Zones 9 - 11. |
