Description:

Size/Shape Vigorous tall growing herb. 2 to 3 feet tall (60-90 cm) or more, 2 to 3 feet spread (60-90 cm). Up to 4 feet. Clump forming.
Leaves Smooth, divided foliage.
Flowers Greenish-yellow umbels.
Blooming Season Spring. Mid-summer.
Fragrance Flavour of the leaves is reminiscent of celery, and of the famous yeast extract, Maggi. Strongly aromatic, remotely similar to celery. There is also a faint reminiscence to the flavour of blue fenugreek leaves. Flowers are fragrant too.
Use Leaves possess excellent flavouring qualities for soups, stews and casseroles. Every part of the plant is edible. It is a great addition particularly to potato and tomato dishes. The hollow lovage stems make great swizzle-stick straws for Bloody Marys. Recipes:http://tinyurl.com/h6rta


Growing Info:

Propagation Seeds, root division, self seeds if not dead-headed. Sow seeds in fall outdoors or indoors before last frost.
Soil Deep rich soils. Well drained. Dress with compost in the fall. Soil that is fairly fertile.
Water Moderate water. Prefers moist soils. Not too dry.
Light Full sun to part shade. It can take partial shade.
Climate Outside perennial. Zones 4 - 8.
