Welcome to Scented Nectar's Garden Plants that are fragrant and/or culinary. I used to have a huge collection of
fragrant/culinary plants. Then, my evil previous landlord
decided to change all the building's windows on a
freezing winter day. I stuffed as many plants as I could
into my windowless bathroom, but most died. In the next
year or so, I plan to move somewhere with more south
facing windows and build up my collection again. I wonder
if a person can be booted out of a building for having
too many fragrant house and balcony plants! Below is
detailed plant info for 50 different fragrant and/or
culinary plants. I hope that visitors to this site will
find the info handy for their own sunny windows and
balconies. Fragrant plants and flowers are the best room
fresheners ever. Nothing in a spraycan can come even
close. Enjoy.

Plant Info This page was designed for Canadian weather in mind, so Houseplants are those that need winter warmth indoors, and Perennials are those that don't mind the winter outside in cold climates. Annuals can be planted out in spring, only lasting for one season. Most of the plants and/or seeds can be obtained through reputable dealers, eg. Logee, Richters, Chiltern, Banana Tree and Rainforest Seed Co. The first three I've ordered from, and I've been happy with their service. I've never ordered from the other two, but they have been prompt in answering some questions I had for them, and I will be ordering some seeds from them. Buy live Houseplants in warm weather so that you can isolate them outside and spray often for whiteflies, etc. for a couple of weeks, then bring them in once they prove clean. The information on each plant was collected through Google searches. The info on each page is in a categorized format. It consists of bits and pieces I've copied and pasted from all over the net, usually just phrases. I can't vouch for most of the info since I got most of it from other sites, but there is mostly consensus on the growing info and descriptions, so it's probably pretty accurate. Sometimes though, information contradicts other information, and in those cases, I've copied in both versions (eg. lots of water, keep it dry). In a few cases, I have included my own info as well from my personal experiences. The pictures I've included were also picked up from all over the web (as well as a few of my own). Because most are not my own pictures or info, I encourage visitors to click the Google url at the bottom of each plant's page. This will lead you to the various sites the pictures and info came from. The information here is not to be used for commercial purposes due to the fact that the rights to the info phrases and pictures belong to other people. Each page here is a collection of sampled info from many other sites, grouped and organized. Never eat
any part of any plant unless it specifically says that
that part is edible. Most plants listed are grown for
fragrance only. |
